The
first recommendation is that men's rugby will
officially be returning as
a varsity sport at RMC for the fall of 2005. In
accordance with the
strategic direction of RMC, the rugby team will be
competing against other
Canadian universities and the intent is to enter
Ontario University
Athletics (OUA).
RMC has a storied history in men's rugby, as the sport
has been played at RMC since the 1880's. RMC has won
11 national championships since 1911 in
men's rugby. Rugby was re-introduced to RMC this past
September as an intramural sport and was very popular
with cadets. Rugby requires a high level of physical
fitness and teamwork and is an ideal activity for the
students at RMC.

The
second recommendation was to cease operation of the
varsity shooting
team due to a variety of factors, most importantly the
continuing technical
problems with the RMC indoor shooting range. Officer
cadets will continue to have an opportunity to shoot
both pistol and rifle annually through their
regular military training. Selected officer cadets
also participate in a week long small arms coaching
course that emphasizes the supervisory aspects
of shooting. The work and dedication of everyone
involved with the pistol and rifle teams over the
years are
appreciated by the College.
Overall, we are very pleased with the structure and
success of our varsity
programs, and we look forward to another season of
competitive action next
year!
