A new Canadian Forces (CF) Provost Marshal, the military's chief of police, 
has been appointed and will assume his new role as the department's "top cop" 
June 15. Ex Cadet 16327  Cmdr. Steve Moore (CMR 88)  will assume 
responsibility for policing and coordinating security and force protection at CF bases 
and Defence establishments around the world.
BIOGRAPHY - COMMANDER STEVE MOORE, CD
 
Commander Steve Moore was born in British Columbia 
and lived in Manitoba and Newfoundland before settling 
in Prince Edward Island. After joining the Canadian Forces 
(CF) in 1983, he attended the College Militaire Royal de  
Saint-Jean, graduating in 1988, and then completed basic 
police and securitytraining at the CF School of Intelligence 
and Security.
    
As deputy base security officer at CF Base Uplands in 
Ottawa from 1988-1991, he supervised security and policing 
operations, and VIP security for numerous high-profile visitors, 
including the Prime Minister and Governor General, the 
President of the United States and members of the British 
Royal Family.
 
After commanding the military police detachment at CF Base 
Cornwallis (Nova Scotia) for two years, he was posted to the 
directorate of police services at National Defence Headquarters 
(NDHQ) in Ottawa, where he was responsible for oversight 
and management of military police information services. 
In 1995, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander 
and assumed responsibility for development of military police 
policy, procedures and standards.
In 1997, Commander Moore was appointed the first officer 
commanding for the Central Region (Ontario) of the newly 
formed CF National Investigation Service (NIS), the 
investigative arm of the CF Military Police. In 2000, he 
returned to NDHQ, initially as deputy provost marshal for 
resource management and then, after promotion to the 
rank of commander, as deputy provost marshal
for the NIS. He has served in this capacity since September 
2000, and is responsible for four regional detachments, a 
support detachment and approximately 125 investigators 
and administrative personnel.
 
Commander Moore holds an undergraduate degree in 
Canadian Studies and Business Administration and has 
professional certifications in security and information-systems 
security. He is a member of the American Society of
Industrial Security, and the Canadian and International 
Associations of Chiefs of Police.
 
Commander Moore will be promoted to the rank of 
captain (navy) on June 1 and will assume his duties 
as CF Provost Marshal, the military's chief of police, 
on June 15.
